Professor of Natural History, University of St Andrews from
1917-1948. Author of the seminal work 'On Growth and Form' and best known
as a zoologist and a botanist, D'Arcy Thompson was also a respected
classicist and mathematician. His voluminous papers (over 30,000 items)
including research papers, annotated monographs and broad ranging
correspondence with many of the greatest minds and most prominent figures
of his day, offer a rich source for the study of the above areas as well
as contemporary academia, history, social trends and technological
developments.
